Faux Yorker
Over the years a number of people have suggested that I submit cartoons to the New Yorker. Well, when I was younger and sucked more I sent them many cartoons. And Bob Mankoff, the long time cartoon editor, rightly sent me form letter rejections. One time I papered a wall of them for a cartoon exhibit I had.
It is the dream of many cartoonists to get one in that magazine, and I hear the pay is pretty good. I have many collections of New Yorker cartoons, and it has always hung over my head that this was the pinnacle.
It kinda is.
But I’m not so concerned about that anymore. Sure it would be cool, and there is a new cartoon editor who has changed the style of cartoons accepted, but it’s not the sword hanging over my head that it used to be.
I figure I have 10-15 more years of this stuff; who knows what could happen?
